This course, one of three National Academy Foundation programs,
focuses on financial services and other careers that involve computer
applications to create business documents. Areas of study include
accounting, financial planning, banking and credit, investments
in stocks, bonds and mutual funds and marketing school store products
and yearbook.
Students can earn Microsoft certification in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
and Access. They also operate The Hawk’s Nest, the school
store, using QuickBooks to select merchandise, create purchase orders,
maintain inventory, process sales and generate reports.
As part of the yearbook business management team, students sell
ads to local businesses and sell yearbooks. They also compete in
the NJ SkillsUSA contests for technical computer applications and
community service.
Course software used for business applications are Microsoft Word
and Publisher, Excel, Access, Power Point, Quicken and QuickBooks.
