The culinary arts program provides students with hands-on experience in
the preparation, service, and managerial tasks involved in the food
service industry. Areas of concentration include safety, sanitation,
cost control, culinary math, food preparation, culinary terminology,
ala carte and banquet service, and dining room procedures. Culinary
arts is a three year program in which the students will progress from
the fundamentals of food service, to actual hands-on activities involved
in the daily operation of our forty seat, student run restaurant, The
American Bounty Cafe. Through our three year curricula, we create the
opportunity for our students to acquire skills and knowledge they need
to build successful careers in the ever-changing food service and hospitality
industry. During the second semester of the students third year, they
are afforded the opportunity of participating in the Career to Work
program. The students have the opportunity to work at one of our approved
work sites along side industry chefs, giving them an opportunity to
apply the skills and knowledge learned in class, and broaden their educational
experiences. Tech Prep affiliations with Atlantic Community College
and Johnson & Wales University enables the students to earn college
credits while in high school.
