Exploratory Syllabus
Course Description: This program consists of a rotation
through three exploratory shops and specialized training in: computer
skills, job skills, life skills, study skills and thinking skills.
Each shop class provides multi-media experiences relating to the career
choices listed in the course outline. These learning experiences allow
every student to sample each course offered in the 10th, 11th and
12th grade occupational programs and investigate related career options.
The exploratory classes will enable students to make an informed specialization
program choice for their next school year.
Course Objective: Students will sample the following
areas in Exploratory A: Pre-Engineering, Computer Technology, Academy
of Finance and Business Services, Communication Arts Technology, Entertainment
Production Technology, Academy of Travel, Tourism, and Marketing.
They will explore non-traditional careers, and participate in the
integration of academics, vocational, evaluation, technology and social
skills required of careers explored.
Students will sample the following areas in Exploratory B: Automotive
Mechanics, Carpentry, Graphic Design Technology, Heating/Cooling/Plumbing/Electrical,
Law Enforcement & Public Safety, and Golf Course & Landscape
Design. They will explore non-traditional careers, and participate
in the integration of academics, vocational, evaluation, technology
and social skills required of careers explored.
Students will sample the following areas in Exploratory C: Early Childhood
Development, Allied Medical, Culinary Arts, Cosmetology, Food Production,
Pastry & Baking. They will explore non-traditional careers, and
participate in the integration of academics, vocational, evaluation,
technology and social skills required of careers explored.
Students will sample the following areas in Exploratory D: Natural
Sciences Technology, Small Engines / Marine Engines, Auto Mechanics,
Diesel Mechanics and Welding. They will explore non-traditional careers
within those areas and participate in the integration of academic,
vocational, evaluation, technology and the social skills required
of the careers explored.
Course Requirements: Course activities and projects
required for successful completion of the course includes:
- Meeting all High School Requirements;
- Completing 2 Technical Research Papers;
- Completing all class work;
- Participating in all career visitations.
Criteria for Assessing Student Performance:
Participation 20% time on task, work ethic
Written Project 30% scripts, reports, research
Hands On 40% all production activities
Tests 10% tests (excluding midterm and final exams**)
**Note: Mid-term and Final Exams are weighted as their own category
on the report card
