The
Academy of Travel and Tourism follows a curriculum developed through
the school’s affiliation with the National Academy Foundation
(NAF) that is sponsored by Marriott Corporation, American Express
and CitiBank.
The students learn the basics of the travel and tourism industry
with specific training in front desk operations, security, housekeeping,
hospitality today and hospitality law. These classroom experiences
are incorporated into the students’ hands on operation of
The Inn, an eight-room motel located on the school’s campus.
Academy of Travel and Tourism students benefit from travel experiences,
funded through the school’s association with the Tech Prep
Grant program in association with Atlantic Cape Community College.
Field trips include the Wildwoods Convention Center, casino hotels
in Atlantic City, local motel properties, the state-wide annual
Governor’s Conference on Tourism and a tour of the Maasdam,
a Holland American cruise ship, in New York City. These field trips
provide insights into various facets of the travel and tourism industry
and the opportunity to meet and talk with industry professionals
about job descriptions and careers in today’s tourism businesses.
