The Agriculture Education program is designed for students in grades
10-12 in the Cape May County Technical School District. Agriculture
Education prepares students for successful careers and a lifetime
of informed choices in the global Agriculture, food and natural
resources systems. The courses available within the Agriculture
Education Program are designed to introduce the students to the
fundamental principals of the horticulture industry and include
Introduction to Horticulture, Landscaping, and Golf Course Maintenance.
It is a three-component program that includes classroom instruction,
membership in the FFA, and a supervised agriculture experience project
that will prepare students for entry-level jobs within the industry
or for post-secondary studies both at the county college and university
levels.
The courses review many of the industries and agribusinesses associated
with ornamental horticulture, landscaping, and sports turf and golf
course maintenance. This program also teaches entry-level skills
and students will be trained in agriculture and environmental science
education. Computer skills, job seeking skills, related math, science,
communication, and study skills are also included in the classwork.
The program stresses leadership, personal growth and career development
through participation in the FFA, a national organization for students
enrolled in Agriculture Education that represents the growing diversity
of agriculture. There are over half a million members participating
in a wide range of activities leading to over 300 career choices
in the agriculture, food, and natural resources industries. |
