Description of the Project:
On December 8th, 2007, Sheila Bradley intercepted an email that
her husband Dr. Sam Bradley had written to his lover of two years
Lois Smith. Dr. Bradley wrote Lois that he was going to tell Sheila
he wanted a divorce and that he would tell her after the Christmas
party on December 9th 2007...On December 9th, Lois Smith was driving…as
she turned her steering wheel to go around a curve...the car did
not turn. The steering was gone. She jammed on the brakes, but
nothing happened... The car kept going straight and smashed head
on into a tree...and this is just the beginning!
Anyone on the
campus of CMCTSD February 19, 2008 probably noticed the car crash
in the courtyard. This motor vehicle accident investigation by
the Law Enforcement and Public Safety students represented phase
one of the interdisciplinary project and included presentations
by local police officers and area EMS teams. The narrative is
part of the background story to the criminal investigation. The
interdisciplinary project had three more primary phases, including
the investigation into the disappearance of Sheila Bradley, Trial
Preparation, and the Trial itself.
In order to complete this project,
expert skills by the students where needed to be drawn from many
disciplines. The students tested blood spatter, studied skeletal
remains, analyzed the automobile damage, wrote the evidence reports,
conducted a trial, and sentenced the individual.
