Course Description: US History 1 College Prep is
a survey history course from the first interaction between Europeans
and American Indians through the end of Reconstruction.
Course Objective: Students in this course will
learn to analyze the various movements of the United States from
the 1500s to the late 1800s and relate their relevance to today.
Course Requirements:Students must bring in a current
event every Friday which will count for 15% of their grade. They
are expected to come to class prepared and ready to participate
in a manner according to the rules of the high school.
Criteria for Assessing Student Performance:
Class Participation 25 percent - Students are active participants
in class discussion, as well as come to class prepared (see Classroom
Expectations)
Classwork 20 percent - notebook of a student will be used to gauge
classwork and help clarify where students are achieving best.
Tests 15 percent - assigned at end of each unit and consist of several
sections including a reading and writing section where students
create an argument
Quizzes 10 percent - randomly assigned through the marking period,
but delivered to solidify main ideas.
Current Events 15 percent - due every Friday. Students have been
given a sheet that explains what types of current events are acceptable
and are expected to have both a summary and opinion.
Projects 15 Percent – more comprehensive than tests and quizzes-
designed to evaluate a student’s critical thinking ability
