Course Description: World Cultures is a survey
course designed to give students greater insight into the development
of the world and how it became the place it is today.
Course Objective: Students in this course will
learn to evaluate the similarities and differences between the great
cultures of past and present and discuss the past’s impact
on the present.
Course Requirements: Students are expected to come
to class prepared with a notebook, textbook and writing utensil.
They need to participate in class using appropriate language and
be respectful of their classmates.
Criteria for Assessing Student Performance:
Class Participation 25 percent Students are active participants
in class discussion, as well as come to class prepared (see Course
Requirements)
Notebook/Classwork 25 percent The notebook of a student will be
used to gauge classwork and also help clarify where students are
achieving best.
Tests 20 percent Tests will be assigned at the end of each unit
and will consist of several sections including a reading and writing
section that will allow students to create an argument on a certain
position.
Quizzes 15 percent Quizzes will be randomly assigned through the
marking period, but will be delivered to solidify main ideas.
Projects 15 percent Projects will be assigned in order to help students
do more in-depth learning on topics which will have long-term significance
to the class.
