Apprenticeship is a method for training highly skilled workers through formalized on-the-job training (OJT)
and related theory instruction. Apprentices and their employer- sponsors complete an apprenticeship agreement,
which is sent to the U.S. Department of Labor and the N.J. Department of Labor and Workforce Development for
registration approval. Upon successful completion of the required OJT, as specified in the approved work process,
and successful completion of the related theory, apprentices will receive apprentice completion certificates from
the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training and the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
These completion certificates are recognized throughout the United States. The apprentice will also receive a certificate of
completion for the related theory instruction from the Cape May County Technical School. Students may attend the related
theory classes as an unregistered student as class space permits, but will not be eligible for apprenticeship completion
certificates.
Other General Information:
Full-time employment is required to be registered as apprentices.
Both programs require the successful completion of 8,000 hours of
OJT, as specified in the approved work process, and 576 hours of
related theory to be eligible for completion certificates as detailed
above. Please note that companies affiliated with a union must have
the apprenticeship agreement signed by the official union representative
to participate in related instruction at CMCTS.
Related instruction classes at CMCTS are generally held from 5:30-8:30
PM, two nights per week, during the Fall and Winter/Spring Semesters.
The tuition and supply fee, for the 08-09 school year, is $312.50
per semester. This is subject to change and does not include textbook
costs, which vary depending on course and year of program.
