Classroom and field work are included in the curriculum. Class projects include construction of commercial fishing gear, net making and mending, dissections, aquarium maintenance and laboratory techniques.

Students operate a hard and soft shell crab fishery. They participate in an osprey nesting and handling project. Field work consists of small boat handling duties, commercial fishing, aquaculture projects, ecology studies, and marine studies.

Students are prepared for entry level jobs in fisheries, fish markets, water treatment and environmental operations or further education in marine biology.
