(HSE) High School Equivalency Testing
Recent changes to the "GED" Test
The State of NJ has changed the testing requirements for a state issued high school diploma, formerly known as the “GED”. The testing is now called the HSE which stands for High School Equivalency. The change was initiated to meet the new High School Core Curriculum Standards.
Although all “GED” state issued diplomas issued before 2014 are valid, all scores for the “GED” taken previous to 2014 have expired for those who did not pass the full battery required to receive a diploma.
There are now three state approved versions of the HSE. The Cape May County Technical School is administering the McGraw-Hill TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion). Passing any version of the HSE will qualify the examinee for the state issued high school diploma and open doors to college entrance and better job opportunities.
* Please be aware of fraudulent websites offering home-based online testing for a fee. Testing must be administered at an approved testing site.
H.S.E. Adult High School Equivalency (replaces GED) *We now offer the H.S.E. Test in Spanish
The HSE, formerly known as the “GED”, sets a new standard for obtaining a NJ State Issued High School Diploma. The HSE-TASC is administered at the Cape May County Technical School and assesses five subject areas including Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Students. Examinees must receive a minimum score of 500 in all five sections to be issued a New Jersey High School Diploma by the NJ Department of Education. The Cape May County Technical School hosts an Annual High School Diploma Recognition Ceremony to honor students who have successfully passed the HSE and earned their diploma. For information on HSE-TASC Preparation Classes
